ABOUT THE MAKER

The Highlands Foundry is a handcrafted apparel and home décor business based in Hudson Valley, New York. My studio is an old Arts and Crafts Bungalow where I live and work with my husband, a glass blower and lighting designer. After many years working in the fashion industry in New York, I decided to step away and build something of my own based on my love of antique textiles, vintage clothing, love of heritage and the idea that designing products utilizing these elements, helps their story to continue.

We launched in February 2016 with a collection of one of a kind tote bags and pillows made from salvaged textiles. Everything we make is small batch or one of a kind, starting with the textile, which really dictates to me the design, shape or style I want to make. Working in the industry for iconic brands such as Ralph Lauren, enabled me to develop an eye and appreciation for heritage, authenticity and things that have a rugged natural beauty to them.

We soon expanded to include apparel pieces with tops, dresses and kimono style jackets, each piece made with the utmost attention to detail and care. We strive to create sustainable design pieces that people can wear, repair, cherish and pass onto another. We use not only salvaged textiles, but also salvaged horse bridles for bag straps, as well as vintage beads and buttons to create unique and special pieces

Our Homewares collection was co-created with my husband, who makes beautiful handblown bell jars and vessels that we wrap with leather. His love and appreciation of fine exotic hard woods shows in the collection of special charcuterie boards we offer.

In addition to our website you can find me at modern makers markets throughout the year to see and try on our pieces, as well as learn about the textiles and what goes into making each piece. Follow my journey on Instagram where you can see what’s on my cutting table for the day, markets I’ll be selling at and what inspires me.

I hope you enjoy what I create!
